Finca Teira, a new addition to our lists at Flatiron and Soho, is comprised of Teixadura, Godello and Torrontés and comes to us from the city of Beade in  Ourense, one of the four provinces of Galicia in northwestern Spain. The wine maker, Adega Manuel Formigo, primarily produces white wines at their small winery and 5 vineyards in the area. The family run business is known for their painstaking hard work, which is reflected by the name “Formiga” meaning ‘ant’ in Gallego (Galician dialect) which is often illustrated in silhouette on their wine labels.

Treixadura, the Spanish name for the Portuguese varietal Trajadura, is a grape usually blended with other varietals from the area and produces light wines full of citrus fruits and white flowers. In this instance the Treixedura is blended with Godello, which provides flavors of apple and Torrontés a grape similar in style to Muscat and Gewürtztraminer, providing distinctly tropical flavors. This light, crisp, and mineral driven wine is a great pair with fish dishes, especially the following from tonight’s Market Menu:

Lubina a la Plancha
Black Sea Bass, Oyster Mushroom, Fava Bean,
Piquillo Pepper Coulis, Yellow Zucchini

Montado de Pulpo
Spanish Octopus, Lemon Yogurt,
Sundried Tomato, Toast
